Design-Your-Own Project

Subject: Art

Grade: 8th

 

The Big Idea: 

 

Students will learn and practice how to manage their time and workload through designing and executing their own art project.

Specific Essential Questions addressed in this lesson:

 

How long will your project take? What materials are needed? Is there any additional learning required? What tools and techniques will you use that you already learned in class this year? What is the scale of your project? What will you plan to accomplish each day to reach your finished project goal?

 

Learning Outcomes/Expectations/Objectives:

 

As a result of this lesson, students will understand that there is a lot of detailed planning that goes into projects. 

 

As a result of this lesson, students will know that when working on a project as a group, work should be divided up equally amongst group members.

 

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to design and execute their own art project.

Learning Activities:

 

Introduction/Opening (5 minutes)

Show students the worksheet template for the project and go over each section and what they should be writing.

Transition: Send students to seats to begin working on their worksheets.

 

Activity (40 minutes) 

Student will work on filling out their worksheets during this time frame. When students are done they should call the teacher over to get it approved before they begin working on the project itself.

 

Cleanup (5 minutes) 

Have students clean up, and put away (on the drying rack if wet). 

 

Materials needed for the lesson:

  • materials will vary from student to student

  • worksheets [1 per student/group]

  • pencil [1 per student]
